The
applied and recommended new strict emission norms for HAP, goals
set for decrease of GHGs, improvement of process safety, cost
reduction and public acceptance demands for solid fuel
utilization to produce clean energy is a real challenge and
requires new technological solutions. The innovative TDT-3R Multi
Fuel provides preventive pretreatment of carboniferous materials
by low temperature carbonization process - using horizontally
arranged - indirectly heated rotary kiln to produce clean
multiple fuel CC prior to solid fuel burning. CC objectives:
Develop
a more efficient energy conversion process for production of CC
resulting in overall design efficiency improvement of not less
than estimated 3 percent as compared with the unit as operated
before any retrofit, re powering, replacement.
Targets
improvement of the environmental performance by preventive
pretreatment and removal of target HAP, - such as organic sulfur
(estimated >95 % removal), chlorine (estimated >95 %
removal), mercury (estimated >99 % removal). Furthermore, by
the use of clean fuel decrease GHG emission with up to estimated
20 % compared to best available technique for solid fuel power
plants with >300 MW capacity.
Targets
joint environmental performance and clean energy production
efficiency improvement in a manner that by add-on/link of
pretreatment option the total production cost is decreased up to
estimated 10 % below the cost of technologies that are presently
in operation.
Recycle
and reuse the removed sulfur, where production of by-products
will be capable of obtaining economic values greater than
by-products produced with any presently known technical
solutions.
Increase
feed flexibility for available multiple co-use of different
types of high sulfur content coal and renewable biomass
fuels
by pretreatment, preventive removal of HAP and feed
decomposition prior use, providing
a net thermal efficiency for any co-used multi fuel of not less
than estimated 65 percent.
Improve
expanded use and European dimension acceptability of renewable
biomass by preventive pretreatment carbonization decomposition
to obtain homogenized clean fuel and use WVO for CC impregnation
for environmentally safe and near zero emission clean energy
production. By collection and large-scale use of WVO sewage
water pollution high risk is eliminated.
The
pilot plant operation is managed for material treatment study by
the innovative low temperature carbonization process, in order to
make extended technical evaluation of the CC end product under
utilization conditions, using multiple fuels and coal
impregnation. Converting pre-treated cleansed coal-renewable
biomass energy into clean electricity can effectively eliminate
health-threatening emissions and improve efficiency by as much as
at least 3 percent compared to any known technical solutions. The
end result of the utilization of the TDT-3R Multi Fuel
development will be that reliable, affordable, increasingly clean
electricity will continue to power the growing European economy
creating continuous environmental improvement and a more
competitive electricity market.
The
project will deliver process methods for preventive pretreatment
of multiple fuels for production and application of end product
CC for post project commercial exploitation.
The
project provides a feed material treatment study through the
pilot test and end product evaluation, where the end product
evaluation reflects realistic operating conditions.
The
project provides solutions which: enhance the security and the
diversity of the energy supplying sources, reduce emissions of
the major greenhouse gases and other pollutants, contribute to
the objectives of the Renewables' White paper, contribute to the
development of an effective internal market for energy and
provides an efficient solution for add-on/link of the system to
any existing or new solid fuel power generation systems.
The
project contributes to reduction of the costs associated with
clean energy production.
The
commercial post project utilization of the end product CC is
specifically targeted for small and medium sized new or
conventional solid fuel-based electric generation units up to 300
MW, where sustainable improvement to the environment will be:
Improving
new employment prospects in the coal mining and coal utilization
and agricultural industries, through utilization of renewables
and waste vegetable oils,
Targets
improvement of the boiler efficiency at an estimated 3 %, thus
decreasing cost for production of clean energy, resulting in
more affordable energy, which in turn supports the sustainable
economical development,
Improving
the quality of life and health and safety, including working
conditions,
Improving
the use and development of skills in a European dimension.
Expand
Trans-European cooperation between several countries.
