Efficient and fully integrated project coordination will be implemented to achieve the clear goals of the project with preparation of extended dissemination and post project industrial utilization of the results. WP2. Multiple fuel characterization, waste oil coal impregnation (Successfully completed) Selection of two representative feedstock streams (I: coal and lignite with total sulfur content of 2 - 3,5 %, II: agricultural residues), and provide characterization - with special concern to the target HAPs Sulfur, Chlorine and Mercury, - and logistics management in European dimension. Coal fuel characterization (proximate, ultimate and ash analysis, including heavy metals) from Greece and Germany. TGA characterization tests of the various types of coal fuels. CC end product characterization (proximate, ultimate and ash analysis, including heavy metals). TGA characterization of CC products from laboratory and pilot scale tests. Development of impregnation methods of CC with WVO. Evaluation of life cycles of WVO. Evaluation of expected environmental savings in European dimension by use of such WVO for clean energy purposes, versus the obsolete practice of discharge to municipal sewage water treatment. WP3. Laboratory and bench scale pyrolysis test (Successfully completed) Test pyrolysis and characterization of different types of biomass from Netherlands and Germany, by application of lab/bench-scale pyrolysis equipment "Pyromaat", with input capacity of approx. 1-10 kg/h, pyrolysis gas/vapor burning at temperatures 850° C and 1,250° C respectively and min 2 sec. residence time and scrubbing, off-gas analysis, (CO, CO2, NOx, SOx, Cl etc), particulate and toxic emissions measurements. WP4. Modeling of TDT-3R Process (Successfully completed) Comprehensive process modeling and evaluation of apparatus application alternatives for pilot equipment, field demonstration and full scale. Modeling of energy efficiency of low temperature carbonization process and near Zero Emissions (no wastes) technical opportunities. Comprehensive study of the sustainable residual management and reuse, linked to the TDT-3R Multi Fuel process. WP5. Development and design of pilot test equipment (Successfully completed) Process and engineering design of the TDT-3R Multi Fuel pilot test rotary kiln equipment for material treatment study and production of CC samples. Scale up, technical and economical modeling of TDT-3R Multi Fuel carbonization rotary kiln for future field demonstration and full-scale plants. WP6. Construction and erection of pilot equip in Hungary (Successfully completed) Manufacturing and installation of the Pilot Plant carbonization rotary kiln for approx. 150 m3 material throughput during less than seven months in Hungary, with approx. feed rate of 0.1 m3/h. WP7. Pilot scale tests in Hungary (Successfully completed) Management of Pilot Plant operation and tests with multi fuels originating from Greece, Germany and Hungary. WP8. CC end products characterization (Successfully completed) Chemical and physical analysis of CC from the Pilot Plant, and test burning with analysis of the off-gas and ash residuals quality. Engineering study of CC burning facilities for heat and power generation. Engineering study of combustion of pyrolysis gas-vapours in a special combustor at temperature of 850 °C and 1,250 °C respectively and minimum 2 sec. residence time. Engineering study of the burning of condensed pyrolysis oil. Samples of pyrolysis oil will also be tested in the combustion test facility in Germany. The tests will be accompanied by extensive analysis of the combustion process and the emission behavior. Analysis of materials and energy flows in the process chain from multi fuels to final energy carriers. Energy economics evaluation in comparison to other energy supply alternatives will be evaluated. WP9. Environmental management audit, Life Cycle Analysis, risk assessment (Successfully completed) Life Cycle Analysis of materials. Environmental management system audit. Risk assessment for environment and human health. Valorization of positive change of risk reduction by application of the TDT-3R Multi Fuel. WP10. Market Survey. Data evaluation. Project SWOT analysis (strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats). Dissemination. Final Report. (Successfully completed) Execution of market studies evaluating the economic competitiveness of the specific application. Management of market surveys of biomass generation and supply in the Netherlands and Germany, and general overview of the other European countries. Management of market survey of coal supply and solid fuel power generation in Greece, Germany and in the UK.
