The Centre of Competence for the innovation in the Agro-environmental sector established in 2002 at the University of Torino and operates in basic and applied research, in teaching activities, supply of services to firms, communication and technological transfer in Developing Countries. It has several national and international collaborations, with public Institutions and the private sector. The Centre possesses extensive facilities including laboratories, experimental fields and greenhouses and hosts two National Certified laboratories, one for testing agrochemicals efficacy, the second for Diagnostics of plant pathogens. Agroinnova is funded by the Italian Ministry for Environment and Territory (IMET) with a framework programme which covers 10 includes projects, including one Biotechnological application in plant pathology (diagnostics and risk analysis) and two on disease management. Other relevant national grants include "Molecular detection of Phytophthora spp." (Italian Ministry for University and Research), "Disease management in soillless systems" (Italian Ministry for University and Research), "Molecular detection of seedborne pathogens and their management" (Regione Liguria and Regione Lombardia).

Moreover, Agroinnova is self-funded throughout the activities of the two certified laboratories on agrochemicals and diagnostics already mentioned and throughout grants from private companies. The Plant Pathology Group (PPG) in Agroinnova has extensive experience in biology and epidemiology of plant pathogens of economically important crops, such as Botrytis cinerea, Fusarium oxysporum, Plasmopara viticola, Phytophthora spp. as well in their management.; The Molecular Research Group (MRG) in Agroinnova has experience in DNA molecular marker technologies applied to detection of plant pathogens and biocontrol agents, fungicide resistance, development of pathogen diagnostics, risk analysis studies; The Plant Disease Management Group (PDMG) in Agroinnova is actively involved in disease management, by adopting cultural, physical, biological and chemical measures. Another field of activity is related to the eradication of seed-and soilborne pathogens and soil disinfestations; The Soil Disinfestation Group in Agroinnova is known for its expertise in chemical and non chemical management of soilborne diseases of horticultural crops. In this field the activities are mainly carried out in the frame of an agreement with the Italian Ministry for Environment and Territory.

Recent and existing national support to AGROINNOVA: Agroinnova is funded by the Italian Ministry for Environment and Territory (IMET) with a framework programme which covers 10 includes projects, including one Biotechnological application in plant pathology (diagnostics and risk analysis) and two on disease management.

Recent and existing EU support: Agroinnova participated as partner in the following EU projects: Demonstration of a biologically sustainable and environmentally friendly high precision thermal seed  treatment method (DEST), FAIR 5, PL97-3364, end in 2002., Microbial optimization to prevent root diseases (MIOPRODIS), FAIR 6, CT98-4309, end 2003., Seed treatments for organic vegetable production (STOVE) QLRT-2001-0223, start in 2003.

As general remarks it must be take into account the expertise of Agroinnova in pathogen detection and in testing the efficacy of chemical and biological tools useful for disease control and prevention: Agroinnova possesses extensive facilities including laboratories, experimental fields and greenhouses and hosts two National Certified laboratories, one for testing agrochemicals efficacy, the second for Diagnostics of plant pathogens. This official recognition (D.M. 30890 del 15/02/1999 (G.U. n° 126 del 01/06/1999 Suppl. Ord. n° 104) e D.M. 32494 del 31/10/2002 (G.U. n° 277 del 26/11/2002) certifies the outstanding skilled expertise of Agroinnova in this sector.
