(ARPAD) is one of the largest agricultural companies in Hungary,
founded in 1960 as cooperative. ARPAD is Public Share Company
with a founding capital of Ft 3 billion (EUR 12 Million) since
1999, with a 900 employees. Activities:
Horticulture:
Arpad is one of the largest greenhouses operator of Hungary and
in Europe if the heating method (geothermal energy only) is
considered, with 23 hectares of glashouse production year around.
16 hectars were modernized in 1998-2001. for soilless
cultivation. In the project of modernization aid from the Dutch
government in a value of NLG 1 Million was also successfully
applied.
Main crops produced in glasshouses are sweet
pepper, tomato, hot green pepper, cucumber. The covered land
(also heated) of plastic tunnels is 23 hectares owned by private
growers, (mainly ÁRPÁD employees). Main crop is
sweet pepper, but hot pepper, tomato, kohlrabi lettuce is also
produced. They integrate non heated plastic tunnel growers on 15
hectares, owned also by private growers. Cropping is in two
stages, an early crop (Chinese cabbage or white cabbage) than a
later crop (sweet pepper, tomato, pepper capia /green and red/).
On 40 hectares open air vegetables are produced covered by flies
plastic or without cover (chinese cabbage, white cabbage, onion,
etc.). Under linear irrigation system sweet corn is produced for
processing purposes for Bonduelle. For post harvest handling and
grading, packing, storing ÁRPAD run two coolhouses. (Both
cca. 2000 m2.)
ÁRPÁD and more
than 580 private growers founded a P.O. (Producers Organisation)
in 2003. All together more than 17 000 tons of fresh produces
will be sold this year in a value of more than HUF 2 billion (EUR
8 Million). Among our home market clients ÁRPÁD
deliver regularly for chains like Tesco, Auchan, Interfruct,
Cora, Spar and other large supermarkets as well. Their product
are also sold in abroad and have a good reputation in Germany in
Scandinavian countries, in neighbouring countries as Slovakia,
Chech Republic, Poland, Austria, Baltic States, Slovenia,
Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina etc.The main product (sweet yellow
pepper) has the right to use the common quality brand of the
Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development “Quality Food
from Hungary”.
ÁRPÁD is active not
only on the field of vegetable growing but on other fields as
well:

resources: More than 100 from the total number of employees are
having B.Sc or M.Sc or Doctor of Science degrees.
