parent company of international operating companies , Smits
Vuren, Banner Pharmacaps, Rousselot, Harimex Rendac, and Sonac.
All of which are active world wide in the versatile and dynamic
world of healthcare specialties, food products and animal feed
products. Sobel aims to grow in existing markets and in
product/market combinations which can be developed using current
knowledge, resources and experience. Sobel is prepared to invest
in product innovations, in more high-tech production facilities,
in powerful distribution organizations and in strengthening the
entire marketing effort. Sobel has an annual turnover of 762
million Euro and employs approx 4.750 people.
Smits
Vuren, as a GMP certified and HACCP implemented company, produces
high quality products from fresh animal bones which are approved
by the National Inspection Service for Lifestock and Meat. Smits
Vuren also complies with the requirements mentioned in the FDA
'Guidance for the Industry'. Besides a variety of technical
applications the Feed, Petfood, Food and Pharmaceutical industry
is served with products like Meat Bone Meal, Bone Fat, Bone
Protein, Colloids, Gelatin, Bone Ash and other Calcium
Phosphates. Bone ash is largely used as raw material for the bone
china industry. This is done by Global Ceramic Materials Ltd.
(UK) and by China Millers Ltd. (UK), a joint venture with Royal
Doulton. Smits Vuren is specialized in the processing of animal
bones comprising an annual volume of about 150.000 tons of raw
material. Smits Vuren is a leading company in the world regarding
R&D of commercial viable products such as fat, bone derived
minerals proteins and gelatins. The products are used as raw
materials for pharmaceuticals, human food, healthcare as wel as
pet food and technical applications. The total number of
employees of Smits is 130. The annual turnover was in 2002 approx
30 million Euro. Quality control and R&D department within
Smits and sister companies: There is no strict separation between
these two departments at Smits. The laboratory is manned by 8
technicians and the head of the laboratory. GSB, the former
holding company of Smits Vuren and Delft Gelatin, was a leading
company in the research into inactivation of TSE agents by the
gelatine manufacturing process. The institution for Animal
Health, Neuropathogenesis Unit, University of Edinburgh
ID-Lelystad , The Netherlands Baltimore Research and Education
Foundation, University of Maryland USA.This partner has a high
qualified knowledge in European guidelines with respect to animal
by-products processing, recycle and reuse. They have more than 30
years experience in the field of bone processing technology.
Smits Vuren is specialized in the processing of animal bones
